How a round works
- 1 A word appearsWith a picture for the little ones, so that children who cannot read yet can play along.
- 2 Tap a pandaThe blue one carries DER, the grey one DAS, the pink one DIE. Tapped the wrong one? Then try again.
- 3 The word moves onEvery correct answer pushes it one box further. Three boxes, and it has stuck.

Every player belongs to a level. It decides the vocabulary – and how much of the interface is shown at all. Whether a child can read matters more here than their age.

What grown-ups get on top
The children’s levels keep the controls small. Anyone learning for themselves gets the full choice.
- Language level A1 to B1Every word is graded. If you are studying for an exam, switch on “Certified vocabulary only” and practise the word lists of the Goethe-Institut and the ÖSD – otherwise the whole stock counts.
- Meaning and example sentenceFor each of the 2000 words there is what it means and a sentence it appears in. In the game the light bulb first shows the meaning – it does not give the article away – and the sentence on a second press.
- Three boxes per wordA right answer moves a word one box on, a wrong one puts it back to zero. After three boxes it is solid. “My words” shows for every single one where it stands.
- You choose what comes upSolid, wobbly, wrong, new – the four groups are the filter as well. Plus topic and round length: if you only want to practise your mistakes, you play a round of nothing but mistakes.
Why is it die Zeitung?
There are rules – only none of them holds without exception. So the rules page shows for each one how often it applies to your own words, and turns every rule into a round of practice.
